Supplemental Instruction (SI) Leader Employment Application

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • You must have a GPA of 3.0 or higher and be in good standing with the University
  • You must have made an A in the course you would like to be a Supplemental Instruction Leader for
  • You must have good people skills and the ability to market yourself and your SI sessions to students
  • You must be outgoing and knowledgeable in the subject matter you would to be a Supplemental Instruction Leader for
  • You must be able to demonstrate excellent communication and presentation skills
  • You must demonstrate a passion for student success and an enthusiasm for education
  • You must complete the Handshake application in addition to this SI Application

JOB DESCRIPTION

A Supplemental Instruction (SI) Leader is:

  • A model student who can facilitate dynamic, interactive, and inclusive group-based study sessions
  • A student that has a strong grasp of study skills and shows a proficiency in the course to which they have been assigned
  • A student that is interested in and passionate about the course they want to be assigned to
  • A student who is willing to be a resource for students to help them achieve academic success
  • A student who is able to demonstrate excellent communication and presentation skills
  • A student who has excellent time management skills
  • A student that can handle constructive criticism and is willing to grow and improve their skills

JOB REQUIREMENTS ​​​​​​​

  • The SI Leader is required to attend all course lectures with the current students
  • The SI Leader is required to plan and conduct two to three one-hour group-based review study sessions on weekdays, based on course material
  • The SI Leader is required to hold one, one hour thirty-minute weekend review session that covers the hardest topics from the weekday sessions
  • The SI Leader is required to prepare dynamic, interactive, and inclusive session material and submit their session plans to SI program management on a weekly basis
  • The SI Leader is required to attend bi-weekly Small Group meetings focused on program updates, personal and professional development, and group interaction
  • The SI Leader is required to work with their assigned faculty member to ensure session effectiveness
  • The SI Leader is required to take regularly scheduled course exams/major assignments and earn an A letter grade. Taking the final exam is not required.
  • The SI Leader is required to be able to meet weekly deadlines
  • The SI Leader is required to meet with program coordinators, as needed
  • The SI Leader is required to submit any required program paperwork, as needed
  • The SI Leader position is required to attend and complete all required trainings for the program and the University of North Texas, some of which may be outside of regularly scheduled working hours or before the semester begins.
